Data Collection
Rental Expenses does not collect your financial records or any information that identifies you personally. There is no account to create, and we have no servers that store your properties, expenses, or notes — we have no ability to read them.
Your records are private: we cannot see them because we never receive them.
The app does collect a small amount of anonymous usage analytics to help us understand how it is used and improve it. This never identifies you and never includes the content of what you enter. It is described under Analytics below.
Data Storage
The properties, expenses, amounts, payees, and notes you enter are stored locally on your device only, using Apple's on-device database.
If a future version offers iCloud sync, your data would be stored in your own private iCloud account through Apple's iCloud/CloudKit, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and inaccessible to us.
Analytics
We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused, GDPR-compliant analytics service, to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not build a profile of you.
The information sent is limited to anonymous events, such as completing onboarding, adding an expense or property, opening the upgrade screen, exporting a CSV, and making or restoring a purchase. One measurement records how many minutes passed between first opening the app and adding your first expense or property, so we can see how quickly the app becomes useful. Each event includes general technical context such as app version, operating-system version, device model, and language/region.
To count distinct users without knowing who they are, TelemetryDeck derives an anonymous, non-reversible identifier on your device. It is not your name, email, Apple ID, IP address, or advertising identifier, and it cannot be used to contact you or track you across apps.
We never send the contents of your records. Amounts, payees, property names, addresses, and notes stay on your device and are never included in analytics.
Analytics data is processed by TelemetryDeck; see the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy. Rental Expenses uses no advertising networks and no third-party tracking SDKs.
Data Sharing
You can export your expenses and Schedule E summary as CSV files using iOS's native share sheet. When you share a file, it is shared directly from your device using iOS's standard mechanisms (Files, Mail, AirDrop, etc.).
We do not participate in, monitor, or have any access to these share operations. Sharing is entirely controlled by you and iOS.
Data Deletion
You have complete control over your data. You can delete individual expenses and properties at any time within the app.
If you delete the Rental Expenses app from your device, all data is permanently removed from your device. This action cannot be undone.
Children's Privacy
Rental Expenses is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. The anonymous usage analytics described above contain no personal information.
Data Security
Your data is protected by your device's security features, including:
• Device passcode/biometric authentication
• iOS file system encryption
• App sandboxing
Your financial records stay on your device and are never transmitted over the network by us. The only information that leaves your device is the anonymous analytics described above, sent over an encrypted connection.
Your Rights
Because the only information we receive is anonymous and aggregated, it cannot be linked back to you, and there is no personal data of yours for us to locate, export, or delete. You retain complete ownership and control of all content created in the app, which resides solely on your device.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
